HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Jesus often illustrated spiritual truths by using parables.  Today we might describe it as ‘Show and Tell’ to convey spiritual truth.

One such parable is the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15:11-32.  To characterize the son as “lost” emphasizes that sinners are alienated from God; to characterize the son as “prodigal” casts as emphasis on a wayward lifestyle.  Having prematurely gotten hold of his inheritance from the father, he “squandered his wealth in wild living” then began to be in need.  We then find that at this point he “came to his senses”, humbled himself, and returned to his father.

While watching down the road the father saw the son a long way off.  The father runs to him, embraces him, loves him and gives him gifts.  He seems totally oblivious to the fact that the son has disrespected him, acted outrageously, and lost everything.  The father lavishes upon him and celebrates over him.  This is a perfect picture of the great love of God towards us.  He seeks after us; He reaches out to us.  When we humble ourselves and come to Him with repentant hearts He is faithful to forgive all our sins, not holding them against us.

Today if you find yourself separated from our Heavenly Father, just take the first step and you will find that He will meet you at that point and welcome you home.

In closing, if your father is still living this Father’s Day, be sure to call or visit him.  If your father is gone, come to Hardin Hills and visit with some of our male residents.
